Stove Project

Introduction
Pawakhola is the same village where Seed of Light carried out its first electrification project. During visits to the community, the team noticed a problem the hydroelectric plant couldn’t solve: in homes built of sheet metal and wood, heating still relies on open fires directly inside the house, with no system to vent the smoke. Residents live, cook, and sleep in spaces constantly filled with smoke.

The community expressed the need for a solution. Seed of Light responded with this project.

Execution
The project involved distributing 21 wood-burning stoves with chimney pipes, one for each family in Pawakhola. The stoves were delivered to the road access point of the valley; transport to the village was organized and carried out by the residents themselves. Installation inside the homes is handled by the families, who are adapting their houses to fit the chimney pipe. Each stove carries a plaque with the donor’s name, permanently attached.

The project was made possible thanks to 8 donors — individuals, families, and schools — who each fully funded one stove, along with private donations supporting the association.

Impact
All 21 stoves have been delivered and installed. The families of Pawakhola welcomed the project with great enthusiasm. Photos of the adapted homes, with the chimney pipes installed, will be published in the coming weeks.
