Hydropower Project Panchthar

Introduction
Khetghari, Sapute, Yangsowa, and Fulpa are four neighboring villages in the Panchthar District of eastern Nepal. Together they are home to around 850 people across 105 families, none of whom have access to a reliable electricity supply. Their geographic isolation makes connecting to the national grid economically unfeasible: after sunset, studying, household work, and basic services come to a halt.

The project grows out of Seed of Light’s earlier work in Pawakhola. Following that first installation, Bahadur Singh Limbu of Hydro Steels Company — the technical lead on that collaboration — identified these four villages and proposed a new partnership with the association to bring them electricity. The communities formally requested support, and Seed of Light agreed to take on the project.

Execution
The project involves building a 7 kW micro-hydroelectric plant, enough to serve all 105 families across the four villages. The system will harness local water resources to power a Pelton turbine, with a head of 60 meters and a design flow rate of 23 liters per second. Each household will be connected to the local grid and equipped with lighting and power outlets.

Construction is planned for the second half of 2026, with inauguration in December 2026. As with previous projects, materials will be transported to the nearest road and carried to the site by local porters, and the project will be carried out in partnership with Hydro Steels Company.
